Viresco - outcompetes algae for nitrates - bye bye algae

As you should know by now the Nitrogen cycle is the 'cycle of life' for aquatic residents like our Koi. It is the process by which poisonous wastes produced by the Koi (ammonia) are broken down to a final product if not so toxic nitrates that we remove using water changes and/or plants.

Trouble is you need quite a bit of a water change to remove a lot of nitrate. And nitrates keep building up in a pond over time.

Plants use them up - but not as much as you might think. You need a LOT of plants to use up the kind of levels of nitrates being produced in a typical Koi pond.

And algae is nothing more than a (very small) plant. A pretty efficient one at that as anyone who has had blanket weed will testify. It grows and grows and grows.

The point is that you don't need much in the way of nitrates to grow if you happen to be an algae plant life form. This is why there is always so much of the stuff, and no matter what you do it keeps coming back. Sure you can 'nuke' it chemically, but a few weeks later all we all know what happens

Which is why we're so happy to be able to close the nitrogen cycle and remove nitrates from the mix completely.

We have found a product that is nothing more than a concentrated dose of microbes that take up residence in the anaerobic films that occur naturally in your pond. These are the microbes that munch on nitrates converting them to nitrogen gas and thereby removing them from the system.

No nitrates means no plant food means no algae! Thankfully this is a purely natural bioproduct and you only need to add it periodically every couple of months, as and when you spot the nitrate levels starting to climb again. We call it the Silver Bullet for algae. And best of all?

It works! We've tested it already in South Africa. Give it two weeks for full effect but you will start to see results within a few days. We have had one pond with REALLY HIGH nitrates that took two doses - but that we would consider an extreme situation. After the dosage the fish are substantially more active and buzzing around the pond like all good Koi should.

And it's good value. R359 will treat 25000 litres (yes, 25 cubic meters) of pond water once off - wham bam. Consider that it's natural, lasts for months and ends up creating  healthier water for your fish and it looks extremely attractive. And because it is so highly concentrated you only need a tiny amount of it - so we can post it to you anywhere you have a pond with an algae problem.

The Wunder Stuff is called Viresco Koi. Take a nitrate reading, chuck the stuff into your pond and wait a few days. Take another nitrate reading and after about two weeks you should spot some serious discomfort amongst your algae.  Measure your nitrates again and see what has happened.

Algae has a natural reserve of 'food' within itself - this is why results vary from pond to pond. Sometimes the Viresco takes a while to populate itself, in other ponds it settles in almost immediately. On the odd occasion if you have high levels of salt in your pond the product sometimes also takes longer to get going.

But once it starts the process - that's it. Algae cannot survive without nitrates.

Pond plants do take a bit of a knock with the product. We haven't seen any that have actually died as a result but they take about 4 weeks or so to adjust to their new levels of nitrate 'food' that are now available.

To work out how many grams of Viresco you need, simply divide your pond volum by 2500. So if your pond is say 15000 litres, you will need 6 grams of Viresco (15000 / 2500 = 6). Simple and easy!
